Group ABs do best when their muscle tissues are slightly alkaline. However, Group ABs can't metabolize meat efficiently because of low stomach acid, so it is important to watch the portion size and frequency. Chicken has lectin that irritates the blood and digestive tracts of Group ABs also. Tofu is a good protein supplements for Group ABs. Nuts, seeds, beans and legumes present a mixed picture for Group ABs. Eat nuts and seeds in small amounts and with caution.

Group ABs can tolerate dairy foods fairly well. But watch out for excessive mucus production.

Generally Group ABs do well on grains, even wheat, but keep in mind that the inner kernel of the wheat grain is highly acid forming in the muscle for Group ABs. Group AB benefits from a diet rich in rice rather than pasta.

Group ABs have a weaker immune system, so they will benefit from the vegetables, which are high in phytochemicals and the more alkaline fruits, which can help to balance the grains that are acid forming in the muscle tissues. Tomatoes do not impose any ill effects on Group ABs.

Group AB should begin each day by drinking a glass of warm water with the freshly squeezed juice of half a lemon to cleanse the system of mucus accumulated while sleeping.

It is important to leave off chicken for Group Bs. Chicken contains a Blood Group B agglutinating lectin in its muscle tissue, which attack the bloodstream and potentially lead to strokes and immune disorders. Group Bs thrive on deep-ocean fish, but should avoid all shellfish. The shellfish contain lectins that are disruptive to the Group B system.

Group B is the only blood type that can fully enjoy a variety of dairy foods. Most nuts and seeds (especially peanuts, sesame seeds and sunflower seeds) are not advised for Group B individuals, as they contain lectins that interfere with Group B insulin production.

Wheat is not tolerated well by most Group B individuals. They contain a lectin that reduce insulin efficiency and failure to stimulate fat "burning". Rye contains a lectin that settles in the vascular system, causing blood disorders and potentially strokes. Corn and buckwheat are major factors in Group B weight gain, they contribute to a sluggish metabolism, insulin irregularity, fluid retention, and fatigue.

Eliminate tomatoes completely from Group B diet. It has lectins that irritate the stomach lining. Fruits and vegetables are generally well tolerated and should be taken generously.

General
□ Dairy products are suitable, avoid most nuts and seeds
□ Leave off chicken
□ Eliminate tomato completely
□ Avoid starch-made products, such as noodles, breads, cookies, etc

When Group A individuals eat meat, they experience sluggishness. As realized earlier, Group A individuals have low stomach-acid content, therefore they have a hard time digesting meat. Since Group A individuals eat very little animal protein, nuts and seeds supply an important protein component. Group A individuals also thrive on the vegetable proteins found in most beans and legumes. These beans can cause a decrease in insulin production, which may cause obesity and diabetes. Tofu should be a staple in the Group A Diet.

Dairy foods are also poorly digested by Group A, and can cause metabolic slowdown. Group A can tolerate small amounts of fermented dairy products such as yogurt, kefir, nonfat sour cream, and cultured dairy products.

Vegetables are vital to the Group A Diet, providing minerals, enzymes and antioxidants. Group A individuals are very sensitive to the lectins in potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, cabbage, tomatoes and peppers. They aggravate the delicate stomach of Group A. Group A should eat more fruits that are alkaline, avoid mangoes, papaya and oranges for they are not good for your digestive tract.

General
□ Have low stomach-acid content, thus have hard time digesting meat
□ Vegetables are vital
□ Important protein sources include nuts, seeds, beans and legumes
□ Dairy foods cause metabolic slowdown
□ Avoid meat and dairy products
□ Avoid beverages that contain even low dosage of alcohol
□ Avoid high-intensity exercises

Several classes of vegetables can cause big problems for Group O individuals, such as the Brassica family (cabbage, cauliflower, etc.) can inhibit the thyroid function. Eat more vegetables that are high in Vitamin K, which helps the clotting factor which is weak in Group O individuals. The nightshade vegetables can cause lectin deposit in the tissue surrounding the joints.

Because of the high acidity stomach, Group O individuals should eat fruits of alkaline nature such as berries and plums.

Group O individuals should severely restrict the use of dairy products. Their system is not designed for the proper metabolism.

Since the ancestors of Group O individuals were hunters, descendants carrying this gene tend to be larger, stronger individuals. Because Group O individuals have the thinnest blood of any type, they are less likely to be affected by blood clots or the buildup of plague – making them less susceptible to heart disease, at least at an early age. They also seem less susceptible to cancer.

General
□ Thrive on intense physical exercise and animal proteins
□ Do not do well with dairy and grain products
□ Hardy digestive tract
□ The leading factor in weight gain is the gluten found in wheat germ and whole wheat products
□ Have a tendency to have low levels of thyroid hormone and unstable thyroid functions, which cause metabolic problems and weight gain
□ Have high stomach-acid content, can digest meat easily

Blood group AB individuals are blessed with inheriting the two dominant genes – A and B. Since both A and B are dominant genes, AB is the only blood group with two dominant traits.

ABs are susceptible to both A and B diseases, making them prone to cancer, heart disease, and autoimmune diseases. Research has also noticed a clear trend for women of this blood group to have many menstrual problems – such as excessive bleeding, clotting, cramping, and irregular menstrual cycles – either leading to hysterectomies or continued misery. A large number of women who experienced menstrual problems also experienced migraine and other headaches. There is a clear pattern of hormonal imbalance that plagues this blood group. ABs are slightly more muscular than As but less muscular than Bs. It is easier for an AB to build muscle than an A, but in some cases, ABs have as difficult a time building muscle as As.

Multiple antigens make Group ABs sometimes A-like with weak stomach acid, and sometimes B-like with genetically programmed for the consumption of meats. Eating properly for an AB requires guidelines similar to Group As, but with small amounts of animal protein. ABs should acquire their vitamins, minerals, and essential amino acids through plant and vegetable proteins.

Group B blood is not as thin as group O blood, nor is it as thick as group A blood. For the most part, group B individuals can eat meat in moderation and usually able to resist many of the most severe diseases common to modern life, such as heart disease and cancer. They have the ability to eat and metabolize dairy products, which both groups O and A do not tolerate well at all.

It is believed that improper foods, or the improper metabolism of specific foods, lower the immune system of Group Bs and make them susceptible to autoimmune diseases, such as multiple sclerosis, lupus, and chronic fatigue syndrome. Group B individuals average the second longest life span after Os. This is probably due to the fact that animal protein, which contains all those essential amino acids, is good food for Bs. Additionally, since Group Bs can eat a large variety of foods, they are able to acquire all or most of their essential vitamins, minerals, and amino acids from food more easily than As and ABs.

Group Bs have the genetics to be the second most muscular, next to group O.

For Group B individuals, the biggest factors in weight gain are corn, buckwheat, lentils, peanuts and sesame seeds. These foods have different lectin that affect the efficiency of the metabolic process, resulting in fatigue, fluid retention, and hypoglycemia. The gluten lectin in wheat germ and whole wheat products also adds to the problems cause by other metabolism-slowing foods.

Individuals with group A blood have the thickest blood of all blood groups. Group As do not tolerate either meat or potatoes well. When group As eat these foods that are inconsistent with their blood group, their already thick blood agglutinates, or gets thicker and stickier. The thick blood requires the heart to pump harder, inevitably causing higher blood pressure, hypertension, an enlarged heart muscle, and an increase in heart disease. This is the major reason why group A individuals have the shortest life span today.

Another downside for individuals with group A blood is that in their adaptation to a vegetarian diet, over time group As began to secrete less stomach acid necessary to metabolize meat protein. Group As have very low stomach acid by genetic standards; while the low acid accommodates the metabolism of fruits and vegetables, it does a miserable job metabolizing animal protein.

Group A individuals are predisposed to heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. It is particularly important for sensitive Group A to get their foods in as natural a state as possible: fresh, pure, and organic. When you get on the Group A Diet, you will naturally be thinner. If you are accustomed to eating meat, you'll lose weight rather rapidly in the beginning as you eliminate the toxic foods from your diet. And when you follow the Group A diet, you can supercharge your immune system and potentially short-circuit the development of life-threatening diseases.

One of the factors contributing to the longevity of Group O individuals is the fact that they survive well as meat-eaters. Individuals with Group O blood have the thinnest blood, strongest immune systems (with the exception of some diseases), strongest stomach acid, and live the longest of all the blood groups at present.

Genetically, stomach acid was designed to break down the high-protein diets on which our original ancestors thrived. As food sources changed, Group O individuals were able to adept to metabolizing almost any food because of this strong stomach acid.

Group O individuals thrive on intense physical exercise and animal protein. Unlike the other blood groups, Group O individuals’ muscle tissue should be slightly on the acid side. Group O individuals can efficiently digest and metabolize meat because they tend to have high stomach-acid content. The success of the Group O Diet depends on the use of lean, chemical-free meats, poultry, and fish. Group O individuals don't find dairy products and grains quite as user friendly as do most of the other blood types.

The initial weight loss on the Group O Diet is by restricting consumption of grains, breads, legumes, and beans. The leading factor in weight gain for Group O individuals is the gluten found in wheat germ and whole wheat products, which interferes with insulin efficiency and slow down metabolic rate. Another factor that contributes to weight gain is certain beans and legumes (lentils and kidney beans) contain lectins that deposit in the muscle tissues making them less "charged" for physical activity. The third factor in Group O weight gain is that Group O individuals have a tendency to have low levels of thyroid hormone or unstable thyroid functions, which also cause metabolic problems. Therefore it is good to avoid food that inhibits thyroid hormone (cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, mustard green) but increase hormone production (kelp, seafood, iodized salt).

Makan Trip to Penang (Part 3 of 3)

Continued from Part 2...
(Or Start from Part 1)

Next, we moved to visit the famous Gurney Drive for dinner! All this while I had thought that this Gurney Drive food place was like a pasar malam but selling only foods, and it was located just by the seaside. I meant, food stalls were located at one side, and the other side was the sea. Then, I could walk along the food street, buy some food, eat them, walk to next food stall, buy some food again, eat them again, and walk to the next food stall, and repeat and repeat. When I was tired, I could then sit at the beach and enjoy the night sea view. To my disappointment, my dream didn’t come true. The Gurney food place was isolated from the beach. I still can see the beach, but it was at least a hundred meters away. I could find food stalls selling various foods here, but most of them were just selling the same type of foods. This pl
ace was meant for tourists, I guess, as I didn’t find the foods tastier. Heard that the locals wouldn’t patronized this place at all.

Ordered rojak, spring rolls, deep fried stuff and other foods. Rojak was ok (see picture below), spring rolls were so-so, and the deep fried stuff was something special to be mentioned! See, this stall sells all kind of deep fried stuff, from potato wedges, onion rings, chicken wings, prawns, sotong, to chicken buttocks and chicken skins (see picture below)! So I ordered deep fried sotong, onion ring, Taiwanese sausage, and, chicken skins (see picture below)! Wow! All of them were crispy and simply irresistible! While they tasted great, upon looking closer to the chicken skin, we found little chicken feather (see picture below)! Waaaaaaaaaaaa...!

As this was only our appetizer for dinner, we moved on to look for prawn mee at another location! Reached the restaurant looking for the famous “Green House” prawn mee stall, but the restaurant was closed for the day. Oh no! Without further delay, we moved on to look for the “fried porridge”. Again, it was closed! Arrrrrrr! Without giving up on our hope, we moved on again to try the Fetty Loh chicken rice. And… yes, you got it right, it was closed for the day! But our spirit was still high, because we didn’t believe our luck was so bad. So, we moved on to hunt for the famous Hainanese chicken chop. Guess what? It was open! But the crowd in the place was huge! After placing our orders, I asked the waiter how long we need to wait for the food. He said at least 45 minutes. Duh… Anyway, it didn’t disappoint me when it arrived. Although deep fried, the chicken meat was tender and juicy. At RM6.50, it worth every single cent. (See picture below)

As I couldn’t think of any supper to take, I went to Cold Storage at Island Plaza to buy a tub of ice cream (1 litre), and finished it at the balcony of the hotel room while enjoying the night sea view. Ho ho ho! (The night was so dark that there was nothing to see actually!)

The third day was the usual breakfast again. This time, they served Grape Fruit juice as well! They also added in the boneless fish cocktail to the selection. I picked up some sliced lemon and asked for tartar sauce to go with the fish. Yummy!

Lunch was taken at the food court inside Gurney Plaza. Ordered something called Japanese Fried Rice. Nothing to shout about.

We went back to New World Park for dinner before leaving to the airport. But before heading there, we bought char koay teow from a roadside stall which was highly recommended by the Penang friend. Maybe we packed the food and the taste wasn’t that great when we ate it at New World. On our way to the airport, we stopped by the roadside to buy Apom with sliced bananas within. It was good!

In a nutshell:
Of course there should be good foods at Penang in which I may have missed during my makan trip there. But overall, the foods didn't meet my expectations. Well, maybe I'll have better makan luck next time.

Makan Trip to Penang (Part 2 of 3)

Continued from Part 1...

Breakfast in the hotel was served from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM, so we woke up early and reached the restaurant at around 7:30 AM. The restaurant is located nearby the swimming pool and the beach, so it was quite cozy. Except us, the rest of the diners were foreigners from the West and Middle East. The breakfast choices were not that extensive, mostly on Western food and some local delights like nasi lemak and Teow Chew porridge, but I personally enjoyed it very much. Like usual, I got some salad and fruits as my starter, and the rest of the foods followed through (see some pictures below). Omelets were made on the spot by the chefs, and diners were just crazy about it! Waffles and pancakes were made fresh on the spot too. Once they were out for sometime and were left cold, the chefs would brought them away and made fresh ones to make sure we had hot waffles and pancakes. Fruit juices available included apple, orange, pineapple, guava and mango. Espresso, cappuccino, latte and local coffee were also available. I was contented with the breakfast.

As Park Royal Hotel is situated next door, I was wondering what kind of breakfast they offered to their guests. Holiday Inn is a 4-star hotel and Park Royal is of 5-star, so I guess they must have better breakfast selection than us. So we walked over and checked out their restaurant for breakfast. I knew we were being knocked down when we entered the restaurant. At the entrance, I saw a counter serving fruit juice. Our fruit juice came out from bottle, and theirs, oh my, made fresh on the spot! The counter was full of fruits, water melons, carrots, celeries, oranges, apples, guavas, and so on. Walked around the restaurant, and found that they had more choices of foods. Anyway, I guess we get what we pay for.

Went to New World Park for lunch. Ordered char koay teow again (after all, this is one of Penang popular foods). This time, it was char koay teow special, RM6.50 per plate. Look at it (see the picture below), the prawns were huge! Compared to the char koay teow that we ate on yesterday, this was far better and tastier. Also ordered other foods like fried oysters, Chinese dumpling, ice kacang and other foods. The fried oysters was good to me. At only RM5, I say it was a good deal. Unlike those that I ate in KL, in which they are more flour than oysters, this one had generous amount of oysters and egg (see picture below). The Chinese dumpling, bah chang, was bad. The glutinous rice was not cooked and thus hard. I was rather excited at first with the ice kacang when I first saw its offers: you can add fresh fruit to your ice kacang. So I ordered my ice kacang with mixed fruits: banana, mango, papaya, water melon, and topped it up with a scoop of ice cream (see picture below). To my disappointment, it didn’t taste as good as it sounded. Well, its appearance was already so-so, and its taste was just… plain! This ice kacang with mixed fruits cost RM3.80, while the ice kacang with water melon (also found in the picture below) cost RM3.00.

After lunch, we went to look for afternoon tea. Went to look for asam laksa and “fried ice” dessert located nearby the Kek Lok Temple. Too bad the “fried ice” (still wondering what is it!) stall was closed, and I didn’t have chance to taste it. We didn’t try the asam laksa, as I don’t fancy it at all, ha ha!! Went up to the dam above the temple and took a nice scenery view of Penang here. Next, drove to Penang Hill but the hill was closed for some sort of maintenance of the tram. I didn’t feel a waste for not visiting it as my sole purpose was not to visit it but to EAT! So we went to a nearby shop for some little snack and cendol again!

As there was still some time to kill before dinner, we went to the Botanical Garden. Besides seeing many people exercising and jogging under the hot sun, we also saw many monkeys on the green. Ones of the most popular monkeys that caught the visitors’ attention were the baby monkey and its mother. So adorable!
