Apple or pear? (Part 3 of 3)

Continue from Part 2...

For the past two years, my waist-to-hip ratios fluctuate between 0.88 and 0.91. By referring to the waist-to-hip ratio reference table below, I still have to continue to work hard.
Waist-to-Hip Ratio Reference Table

I do my measurement about once a month, sometime every two to three months once. I don't do this measurement too regularly like I do for my body fat and blood pressure. After all, we all know that it takes time for the body to make changes.

Hi Wai Keat,

You are the first person who left a comment in my blog and yet you've posted me a very tough question! Ha ha!

To answer your question, first of all, we must understand that there is no spot-reduction. That is, we cannot decide which body part to lose its fat while keeping other intact. We cannot merely do hundreds or thousands of abs crunches hoping that we can get a flat tummy. So long as the body fat percentage is high in our body, no matter how hard we work on our abs, the six-packed abs will still be covered by the layer of evil fat. Since there is no spot reduction, we simply have to reduce body fat in general. That is, instead of targeting to lose fat at particular body part, aim to lose overall body fat.

The effectiveness and efficiency of fat loss involve a lot of factors. Some of these factors cannot be controlled, for examples, genetics, gender, age, race, and so on. But other factors, such as diet, physical exercise, stress level, resting period, lifestyle, are all manageable by us. It's through all these manageable factors that we will look into so that we can make our fat loss program working for us.

Fat loss is a life-long process. We have to make it part of our lifestyle in order to get along with it. This is one of the reasons why I setup this blog so that I can share information with more health-conscious people like you. At the same time, I'm also using this opportunity to keep on reminding myself that I'm not fighting the "fat war" alone.

You can expect to see more topics on fat loss coming up in my blog. For starter, you can try to increase your workout intensity so to burn more calories. We'll look into other topics in the near future.

Remember: You're not alone. I'm here to fight together with you!
